Sundust expands its offering with ZEV and vZEV billing

Sundust expands its offering to include ZEV and vZEV billing

Sundust now offers a modular, comprehensive solution for measuring and billing energy consumption in self-consumption communities (ZEV) and virtual ZEV (vZEV). The focus is on commercial and industrial facilities, which have specific requirements for energy measurement and billing.

What Are ZEV and vZEV?

In Switzerland, a self-consumption community, in German "Zusammenschluss zum Eigenverbrauch" (ZEV), is a legal model whereas group of consumers within a site or building who jointly purchase and use electricity. A virtual ZEV (vZEV) extends this concept by allowing consumers with the same grid connection point to form a community across multiple properties, even if they are not physically connected.

Tailored Solution for Commercial and Industrial Customers

Through the operation of its own PV installations and ZEV, Sundust has found that existing ZEV billing providers often do not fully meet the specific needs of commercial and industrial customers. Therefore, Sundust’s new offering includes the following key features:

  • Flexible Billing: In addition to consumption-based billing, varying solar tariffs, maximum power charges and reactive power fees can be integrated.
  • No Vendor Lock-in: The metering and billing architecture is based on an open topology with standardized interfaces. Hardware and software components are     interchangeable, ensuring long-term flexibility.
  • Ownership of Hardware: The installed metering hardware remains the property of our customers. This allows them to change service providers or software at any time without becoming dependent on Sundust or a specific vendor.

With this approach, Sundust enables commercial and industrial customers as well as operators of larger PV systems to achieve maximum independence and flexibility in ZEV and vZEV billing.
